Microsoft gains key energy-industry partner

Published on .

Redmond, Wash.--Microsoft Corp. gained a key ally in its race to establish its .NET application development platform in vertical industries when Excelergy Corp., Lexington, Mass., announced Wednesday it would integrate .NET with its component-based, open eXtensible Markup Language (XML) Web services platform. The move is significant because Excelergy specializes in serving sales, marketing and finance executives in the energy and utility industries. Those industries were early adopters of electronic data interchange technologies a decade ago, and are widely expected to be among the most advanced in using Web services for b-to-b sales and marketing efforts in coming months. The announcement was made by Microsoft .NET Solutions Group VP Peter Boit.
