Microsoft hires new business development exec

Published on .

Redmond, Wash--Microsoft Corp. has hired Richard Emerson as senior VP-corporate development and strategy. Former managing director and co-head of technology and telecommunications advisory services at investment bank Lazard Freres & Co., Emerson will be in charge of mergers, acquisitions and partnerships at Microsoft. The appointment comes at a critical time, as Microsoft has curtailed most of its buying since the filing of a Federal Antitrust lawsuit that concluded with a call for the breakup of the software company. Prior to the suit, Microsoft was one of the leading acquirers of technology companies.
