Mid-market middleman gets $30 million

Published on .

The EC Company, Palo Alto, Calif., said Monday that it has completed $30 million round-three financing from an investors group that includes American Express, CMGI @Ventures and extensible markup language, or XML, software vendor webMethods Inc. The company specializes in providing trading-exchange software and services for medium-sized companies (typically $1 billion or less in annual revenue) that supply corporate giants. It said the new funds would go toward expanding operations in such areas as sales and marketing. The company will bid to fill a void in the market--software and services for companies forced into trading exchange environments.
