Mobile ad expenditures to be robust this year

Boston—Worldwide advertising dollars devoted to mobile devices are expected to leap 85.4% this year to $11.6 billion, according to a study by market research company Strategy Analytics. In the U.S., ad spending growth will be even higher this year, projected to increase 128.9%, to about $4.2 billion, according to Strategy Analytics' “Global Mobile Media Forecast.” Advertising within mobile apps is also growing powerfully—as opposed to display ads on websites—and is projected to reach $1.2 billion in 2012, a 118% increase over last year. In-app ad revenue will be more than double the revenue from mobile Web display advertising, projected to reach $556 million.
