Mobile app revenue to grow 85% this year

Published on . 0

London—Revenue generated by mobile apps will reach $27 billion this year, up 85% over 2012, according to a new report by ABI Research. According to ABI’s “Mobile OS, Browsers and Applications Research Service” report, there are more apps available now for mobile devices running Google Inc.’s Android operating system. However, apps running on Apple Inc. mobile devices still command about two-thirds of all smartphone and tablet app revenue because Apple users are “more willing to depart with their cash,” ABI Research said, in a statement. Apps for tablet devices are gaining ground on smartphone apps and are expected to take the revenue lead by 2017, ABI said. Revenue categories considered in the report include pay-per-download, subscription, in-app purchase and in-app advertising.
