New York—The use of mobile data is expected to increase more than 12-fold by 2014, according to a new report from ABI Research.

ABI's study, “Mobile Data Traffic Analysis,” describes the growth of traffic transferred over mobile data networks. It projects that by 2014 the volume of mobile data sent and received every month by users around the world will exceed the total data traffic for all of 2008.

The fastest growing Internet traffic type is expected to be video streaming, which is projected to experience a compound annual growth rate of 62% over the next five years, according to ABI.
