Motorola to cut another 7,000 jobs

Chicago--In an effort to lower costs and return to operating profitability in the second half of the year, Motorola Inc. on Thursday said it plans to eliminate another 7,000 jobs, or 7% of its worldwide work force. The cell phone and semiconductor giant said the cuts will affect all business segments, including research and development, manufacturing and sales and corporate headquarters operations. The company also reaffirmed its second-quarter earnings projection of a loss of approximately 4 cents per share.
