Motorola places GSM-connected Internet call

Swindon, U.K. -- Motorola said it achieved the world's first voice call over Global System for Mobile-connected Internet Protocol technology. Motorola gave the demonstration at a conference in London, attended by 180 GSM network operators from 75 countries. The first test call made by Motorola's Network Solutions Sector was placed from Motorola's worldwide GSM headquarters in Swindon, U.K., to a research and development center in Chicago, using Motorola's existing data intranet.
