Mansueto Ventures CEO John Koten has stepped down, according to various media reports. Mansueto Ventures publishes Inc. and Fast Company. Both magazines struggled in the first quarter, with Fast Company down 28.8% in ad pages and Inc. down 46.7% compared with the first quarter of 2008. Fast Company had a strong 2008, with pages up 23.9% compared with 2007, and Inc. was off just 0.8% in ad pages. Condé Nast, a unit of Advance Publications, announced that Richard D. Beckman has been named president-CEO of the company's Fairchild Fashion Group, which publishes WWD. Beckman, who had been president of the Condé Nast Media Group, succeeds Daniel Lagani, who is leaving the company. In his new role, Beckman will be responsible for all the Fairchild Fashion Group, which also includes Footwear News, Fairchild Summits, Fairchild Books and Fairchild Classified. The move is seen as a sign that Condé Nast is placing greater emphasis on its trade publications. Peter Bart, the longtime editor in chief of Variety, will assume a new role as VP-editorial director of the brand, according to a story published last month in Daily Variety. In his new position, Bart will report directly to Tad Smith, CEO of Reed Business Information. Bart also will continue to contribute his weekly column as well as his blog. Tim Gray, Variety's editor, will have complete responsibility for Variety's news operations.
