Dow Jones & Co. said it intends to name M. Peter McPherson as chairman. A formal announcement will be made April 18, when the company holds its annual shareholders meeting. McPherson, president of the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges, has served as an independent director of Dow Jones since 1998. From 1993 through 2004, he was president of Michigan State University, and from 1989 through 1993, he held various executive positions at Bank of America.
Wicks' NewBay Media unit appoints Palm president-CEO
Steve Palm has been named president-CEO of NewBay Media, a subsidiary of Wicks Business Information that was acquired from CMP Technology last September. Palm, formerly VP-group pub-lisher at Scholastic Marketing Partners, succeeds Tony Keefe, who is leaving the company. NewBay Media's portfolio comprises three categories: Entertainment Technology, Music Player and Technology & Learning.
Nielsen picks West as CFO to suceed Ruijter
Nielsen Co. has named Brian West CFO. He succeeds interim CFO Rob Ruijter, who will return to the Netherlands, where he will be an executive adviser to Nielsen's supervisory board and a member of the executive board. West joins Nielsen, formerly VNU, after more than 16 years in senior financial management positions at GE Corp., most recently as CFO of GE Aviation, Infrastructure.
Hanley Wood taps Schmidt to lead e-media group
Hanley Wood Business Media has named Andreas Schmidt, former VP-marketing at AOL, to head up its reorganized electronic media group. Schmidt will be responsible for Hanley Wood's b-to-b magazine Web sites, newsletters and products such as ebuild, job boards and contractor clubs. He will also be in charge of the consumer house plans business, which includes two e-commerce Web sites, eplans.com and dreamhomesource.com.
'VARBusiness' chooses Raikow as senior editor
CMP Technology's Channel Group announced that security expert David Raikow has joined VARBusiness as senior editor. Raikow, who was most recently a consultant focusing on network security models, procedures and implementation, will cover security, networking and wireless.
