Colin Crawford, who was recently promoted to CEO of IDG's PC World and Macworld from senior VP-online, is back as head of online, this time as exec VP-online. The move follows a widely reported rift between Crawford and Harry McCracken, editor in chief of PC World, over blurring of editorial and advertising. IDG is conducting a search for a new CEO for the PC World and Macworld brands, according to Howard Sholkin, director-communications & marketing programs at IDG.
Dow Jones hires Rooney as chief revenue officer
Dow Jones & Co. named ESPN sales and marketing executive Michael Rooney to the newly created position of chief revenue officer of the Dow Jones Consumer Group, which includes The Wall Street Journal and WSJ.com. Rooney joined ESPN in 1997 and has served in a number of roles for the company, rising to exec VP-multimedia sales.
'Billboard' names Gross marketing director
Billboard has named Stacey Gross marketing director. In her new role, Gross will work with Billboard's parent, Nielsen Business Media, to develop branding efforts for its e-media and licensing divisions. Prior to joining Billboard, Gross worked almost three years in entertainment marketing for National CineMedia.
NNN taps Strauss to be first interactive sales director
The Newspaper National Network has named Gary Strauss to the newly created position of interactive sales director. Strauss was most recently VP-sales at Imaginova, an ad-supported network focused on science and technology markets. In his new role, Strauss will work with the NNN sales team to build newspaper Web site sales opportunities for national advertisers.
Hiner chosen as executive editor oif TechRepublic
Jason Hiner has been named executive editor at TechRepublic, a Web site for IT professionals that is owned by CNET Networks. Hiner began writing freelance tutorials for TechRepublic in 2000 and joined the Web site as full-time editor in 2001. He continues to write the blog Tech Sanity Check.
