New York—MPA has named media veteran Mary Berner as its next president-CEO. She is expected to take charge in September, succeeding Nina Link, who announced in June that she was leaving the association after 13 years at the helm. Starting Sept. 17, Link will serve in an advisory role until the end of the year. Berner was most recently president-CEO of the Reader's Digest Association as well as a director. Previously, she served as group president of Condé Nast Publications' Fairchild unit, which includes several trade titles such as DNR, Footwear News and Women's Wear Daily. “We're fortunate to have a CEO of Mary's caliber leading the industry charge going forward at a time of unprecedented transformation and opportunity,” said Michael Clinton, chairman of the MPA board and president-marketing and publishing director of Hearst Magazines, in a news release. He added: “As a seasoned CEO who has successfully run several of the world's largest and most successful media companies and brands during pivotal times, her dynamic leadership skills, deep and broad understanding of the media landscape, and strategic vision are exactly what we need at this critical time.”
