Published on .

New York—MSNBC.com has acquired social news media site Newsvine, it was announced on Sunday. This is MSNBC.com’s first acquisition in its 11-year history. Financial terms were not disclosed. Newsvine is a Web site that combines traditional media, from such sources as the Associated Press and The New York Times, with community-driven news stories and opinions. Users write articles and link to external content, as well as vote, comment and chat on articles created by other users and professional journalists.

Newsvine, which debuted in March 2006, will remain separate from MSNBC.com.
