MX Logic: ‘Zombie PCs’ responsible for 56% of spam

Denver —MX Logic, an e-mail security company, said an average of 56% of all spam was sent by so-called “zombie PCs” in July. It said this is the third consecutive month that zombie PCs accounted for more than half of all spam. Spammers using zombie PCs “hijack” broadband PCs by installing a spam “Trojan” that provides them with remote spamming capabilities. In addition, MX Logic said spam-sending domains are the biggest users of SPF and Sender ID, two authentication protocols developed to combat spam.
