BtoB takes gold despite slower response times

New, the official Web site for the 2002 Winter Olympics, received higher traffic than other Olympics sites, but scored lower on technical performance, according to an analysis by Jupiter Media Metrix Inc. and Mercury Interactive Corp.

Daily traffic to peaked Feb. 21 at just over 2 million visitors, which was the highest traffic level reported among Olympics Web sites.'s Olympic site came in second, with a peak of 683,000 daily visitors, and placed third with 666,000 daily visitors.

However, averaged a nine-second response time for the Web page to load, compared with a seven-second average response time from all other Web sites.

The overall average availability of URLs on the Olympics Web sites monitored was 99.2%. However, the overall availability of e-commerce transactions, such as ordering Olympics merchandise, was only 95%. --Kate Maddox
