NECX.com L.L.C., Peabody, Mass., an electronics industry e-marketplace, and Market Design Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm, announced Monday that they have created an application enabling trading and negotiation on NECX, which brings together buyers and sellers of semiconductors, computer products and networking equipment. The new application is now available on NECX's Global Electronics Exchange. The technology will use a set of rules designed to guarantee fair trading and offer recommendations as to which market-making channel is most advantageous per product based upon liquidity and price volatility. NECX is a wholly owned subsidiary of VerticalNet Inc., the Horsham, Pa.-based builder of vertical e-marketplaces. Separately, VerticalNet announced Monday it has completed its previously announced acquisition of Tradeum Inc., a San Francisco-based e-commerce technology company.
