NetIQ makes $1 billion WebTrends hit

San Jose, Calif.-High-flying Internet infrastructure company NetIQ Corp. has reached a $1 billion agreement to acquire Web traffic analysis company WebTrends Corp., Portland, Ore., in a stock swap. The move means that NetIQ will offer WebTrends' software for analyzing Web site user sessions as part of its overall software package for monitoring network performance, bandwidth availability and applications. The merged companies will be based at NetIQ's headquarters, and make use of NetIQ's outside sales force and WebTrends' inside sales force.
