Newspaper ad revenue continues to slide

Arlington, Va.—Newspaper print advertising revenue totaled $5.9 billion in the first quarter, down 29.70% from the year-earlier period, according to the Newspaper Association of America.

The declines were led by classified advertising, which totaled $1.5 billion, down 42.34% from the year-earlier period.

Even online revenue appears in a freefall, declining 13.4% to $696.3 million, according to the NAA. Print and online revenue combined fell 28.28%.
