Newspaper ad revenue drops 6.4% in the second quarter

Arlington, Va.—Total newspaper print and online advertising revenue fell to $5.6 billion in the second quarter, a 6.4% decline from the year-earlier period, according to the Newspaper Association of America. Print ad revenue dropped to $4.8 billion, a decrease of 7.9%. Online ad revenue, which rose 10.9% in 2010 before growth started to stall in 2011, grew to $827 million in the second quarter, an increase of just .9%. Print classifieds revenue totaled $1.14 billion, a decline of 8.4%.
