Nextel makes huge CRM deal with IBM, TeleTech

Reston, Va.--Nextel Communications Inc. said it will spend $1.2 billion over eight years on a customer relationship management system to be developed and managed by IBM Global Services and customer-care specialist TeleTech. Nextel said the deal will allow it to improve operational efficiencies while also improving customer care. As part of the deal, Nextel and IBM plan to ally in the sales and marketing of wireless telecommunications services, hardware and software. Nextel National Network, the telecommunications company’s wireless network services, and IBM Research will jointly develop and market new wireless technologies.
