Nielsen: Google search queries up 40.8% in January

New York—Search giant Google enjoyed a robust January, with 5.9 billion search queries funneling through its engine, a 40.8% year-over-year increase, according to Nielsen Online.

Google Search's volume represented 62.8% of all search queries on the Internet. Both Yahoo and MSN/Windows Live Search also experienced query gains last month, Nielsen reported. Yahoo saw its year-over-year search requests rise 8.7% to 1.5 billion, while MSN grew by 18.3% to 1.05 billion.

Yahoo's volume for the month gave it a 16.2% share of all search queries, with MSN following with 11.2% —Christopher Hosford
