NM200: Apple

Apple Computer

Location: Cupertino, Calif.

Web developers were certainly faithful to Apple Computer's tagline, "Think different," when designing this site.

What distinguishes Apple.com from thousands of others is its sheer simplicity, which ensures easy navigation.

Take the site's home page, for example. Dead center are search and shortcut options that quickly enable customers to retrieve any company or product information in a matter of seconds.

The home page isn't cluttered with industry or product information. Besides the search features, the main element on the page is a tool bar that's broken down into nine categories such as the Apple store, products, support and where to buy. Businesses also can sign up here for electronic newsletters that include special offers and new product information.

As on many sites, companies have the option of ordering products electronically, or they can obtain an online list of local resellers and consultants. What's different about Apple.com is that merchandise can be viewed by product type, computer type or connector family.

A final bonus: The site's help function provides a toll-free hot line, product information, troubleshooting tips, a technical information library and discussion forums.
