Number of Internet users forecast to rise steadily

Published on .

New York--Despite the global economic sluggishness, the number of Internet users worldwide will continue to grow, according to a new report from eMarketer, a provider of e-business statistics. The report, titled “eGlobal: Demographics and Usage,” predicted that the number of worldwide users, which totaled 445.9 million in 2001, will increase to 709.1 million in 2004. Growth in usage in advanced markets is slowing, and the largest increases will occur in markets such as Latin America, which is predicted to have annual growth rate of nearly 40% between 2000 and 2004.
