Office Depot business solutions division's sales decline

Published on .

Delray Beach, Fla.—Office Depot reported that sales for its North American Business Solutions Division declined 3% to nearly $1.17 billion in the third quarter, compared with the year-earlier period.

Direct channel sales were down 10%, which the company attributed to “less effective marketing” and issues with its telemarketing provider. Office Depot also said declines in sales to small and midsize customers overshadowed solid 8% growth in sales to national account customers and double-digit growth in sales to the public sector.

Companywide, third-quarter sales increased 2% to $3.90 billion, while net earnings totaled $117 million, down 9.3% from a year earlier.
