Office Depot earnings, sales up sharply

Published on .

Delray Beach, Fla.--Office Depot's first-quarter net earnings increased 46% to $115.6 million, compared with the year-earlier period. Sales grew 18% to $3.6 billion. The company said strong sales in technology products led the gain.

Bruce Nelson, chairman-CEO, said that now that the company's "strategic realignment" of its sales force is completed, "we expect to see accelerating growth rates in our small and medium customer segments for the remainder of the year."
