Office Depot pledges $1 million to aid hurricane victims

Published on .

Delray Beach, Fla.—Office Depot announced Sunday that it will contribute $1 million to the American Red Cross for the relief of people affected by Hurricane Katrina, which today made landfall in Louisiana and Mississippi.

“We want to make a substantial pledge of assistance in advance of the devastation that we recognize is coming,” said Steve Odland, chairman-CEO at the office supply giant.

Odland said he encourages other companies to make their own pledges to create an adequate fund for victims of the Category 4 hurricane.
