Office Depot targeting churches in e-marketing deal

Published on .

Delray Beach, Fla.--Office Depot Inc., the world's largest office products company, has entered an e-marketing deal with ChurchPlaza Inc., targeting the nation's 370,000 churches, a $49 billion procurement market. Office Depot and Sarasota, Fla.-based ChurchPlaza, which markets everything from pulpits to steeples to audio systems to churches, have jointly developed a co-branded site at which churches can buy Office Depot products. Office Depot is under pressure to find new Internet marketing opportunities as its profits fell 48% in first quarter 2001 versus the first quarter of 2000, mainly due to slowing sales at its U.S. stores.
