Wilmington, Del.--Competition in the office-supplies industry, one of few categories devoid of a dominant Web start-up vendor, is focusing squarely on marketing. officesupplies.com, Wilmington, Del., said Wednesday it has hired 24/7 Media, New York, to drive traffic to its site. 24/7 will develop banner advertising and affiliate marketing programs for the site, which targets small and midsize businesses. The company faces stiff competition, as several established office supplies companies, including Boise Cascade Office Products, Office Depot and Staples, have well developed Web sites. The deal follows on the heels of last month's sweeping advertising and marketing alliance between Office Depot and Web trading hub PurchasePro.
