Omnicom earnings up 20% despite soft ad market

New York--Omnicom Group Inc. reported net income of $95.3 million, or 52 cents a share, for the first quarter, up 20% over net income of $79.7 million, or 45 cents a share, for the first quarter of 2000, due largely to new business in spite of the weak advertising market. Omnicom reported worldwide revenue of $1.6 billion for the first quarter, up 14% over revenue of $1.4 billion for the first quarter of 2000.
