Omnicom earnings rise despite ad slump

New York--Advertising giant Omnicom Group Inc. on Tuesday posted a gain in first-quarter earnings, as revenues climbed 8% despite the continued industry slump. Omnicom reported earnings of $128.6 million, or 68 cents a share, compared with $95.3 million, or 52 cents a share, a year earlier. Analyst expectations ranged from 67 cents to 69 cents, according to research firm Thomson Financial/First Call. Revenues rose to $1.73 billion from $1.60 billion a year earlier.
