Reston, Va.—Traffic on online classified sites grew 47% in the past year to 37.4 million users, according to online measurement company comScore Media Metrix in a report released Tuesday.

That represents about 22% of the Internet population.

"While online classifieds are not new, it appears that Internet users are really beginning to catch on to this phenomenon," said Andrew Lipsman, senior analyst at comScore Networks, in a statement.  "With nearly 50% growth in the past year, online classifieds are growing at a rate that surpasses most other categories."
