Published on .

Arlington, Va.—More than 59 million people, or 37.3% of all active Internet users, visited newspaper Web sites during the second quarter, a 7.7% increase from the same period last year, according to a report released Monday by the Newspaper Association of America. The analysis was conducted by Nielsen//NetRatings.

Newspaper Web site visitors generated nearly 2.7 billion page views per month in the second quarter, compared with a little more than 2.5 billion during the same period last year.

The latest newspaper Web site numbers come as NAA readies the next phase of its industry trade campaign with the release of two new ads emphasizing the value of the newspaper audience to advertisers.
