Burlingame, Calif.—The information industry will generate revenue of $306 billion in 2006, up 8% over 2005, according to a new report from research firm Outsell. Growth in 2006 will be driven by search, aggregation and syndication, Outsell predicts, with companies including Google and Yahoo! leading the way. The report also projects that online revenue will move from a single-digit to a double-digit percentage of total revenue at b-to-b media companies. Local news, community blogging and social media will also take on more prominence in 2006, Outsell projects. The report also forecast that mergers and acquisitions market valuations in the sector will continue to increase and peak in 2006, and then will start to wane by the end of the year and into 2007.
