Overture launches local search function

Pasadena, Calif.—Search engine company Overture Services on Monday announced it has formally launched Local Match, its local search function.

The Local Match listings will begin appearing today on Overture's network of distribution sites, including Yahoo!, MyCity.com, MSN, ESPN.com, Switchboard.com and search sites such as DogPile.com, WebCrawler.com, MetaCrawler.com and Excite.com.

Competitor Google launched Google Local in March.

"Overture has built upon its core sponsored search product to deliver highly relevant and precise local offering to businesses of all sizes, whether they have a Web site or not," said Geoff Stevens, general manager of local at Overture, in a statement.
