Paid search ad spending up sharply in Q2

San Diego—Worldwide spending on paid search ads in several industry categories experienced double-digit growth during the second quarter, according to a report from search marketing agency Covario Inc. According to Covario's “Global Paid Search Spend Analysis,” pay-per-click advertising rose 22% among the company's enterprise technology, consumer electronics and retail clients compared with the first quarter of the year, and was up 23% compared with the year-earlier period. On a regional basis, the Americas saw an 8% increase in search spending compared with the first quarter and a 17% jump from the same period a year earlier. Paid search spending on mobile devices was up 39% compared with the first quarter and 132% compared with the year-earlier period. Cost-per-click prices rose 10% compared with the first quarter, which Covario attributed to increased competition in the technology and consumer electronics industries, as well as such new Google ad units as Product Listing Ads.
