Penton shutters U.S. print edition of 'Internet World'

Darien, Conn.--Cleveland-based Penton Media Inc. said Wednesday that it is shuttering the U.S. print edition of Internet World after the June issue.

The closing of the print publication follows the recent announcement that Internet World was co-locating its German trade show with the Systems information technology show in Munich later this year.

Penton acquired Internet World in 1998 as part of its $274 million leveraged buyout of Mecklermedia.

Internet World will continue to produce a Web site, a weekly e-newsletter, Web events and Webcasts. The print publication’s 175,000 subscribers will be offered a free subscription to the weekly e-newsletter, "Internet World’s Internet Business."

Penton will continue to publish Internet World in the U.K. and Germany.
