Pleasanton, Calif.--PeopleSoft Inc. said Monday that it has greatly expanded its product line and its marketing to companies with revenues of $500 million or less. The company, which specializes in enterprise resource planning software for running the financial aspects of a business, expanded its PeopleSoft Accelerated eBusiness Solutions to include four new processes: customer relationship management, sales-prospect lead generation, distribution and procurement. It is offering the applications on a module-by-module basis, with each costing about $50,000.PeopleSoft is one of few ERP companies to target smaller businesses. The Accelerated eBusiness Solutions product line includes all the functions of its high-end business software, said Jeffrey Read, VP-general manager of PeopleSoft mid-market solutions."A lot of our competitors miss the middle market, providing instead a 'light' or dummied-down version of their software that restricts what those companies can do," Read said. "We're using an Internet architecture to allow small- and medium-sized businesses to make full use of ERP applications with automation tools designed to make them successful." PeopleSoft has previously released modules for such departments as human resources, financial operations, Internet infrastructure and enterprise service management. The new applications signal a focus on generating new revenue streams through sales-lead generation and CRM, and saving money through procurement and distribution. After Labor Day, a promotional print, e-mail and direct mail campaign will begin to support the new products, Read said. He did not reveal additional details of the campaign. PeopleSoft competes with such companies as SAP AG, Oracle Corp. and J.D. Edwards & Co. for ERP sales.
