Pitney Bowes to lay off 1,500 employees

Published on .

Stamford, Conn.—Pitney Bowes plans to lay off 1,500 people, or about 4% of its global work force.

The move is part of a program the mail management company put in place to lower its costs and improve operational efficiencies. In addition, the company will record charges of $300 million to $400 million as part of its transition to fully digital equipment.

Pitney has also decided to “explore strategic alternatives” for its U.S. Management Services business, including the possible sale of the unit.

Management Services provides outsourced mailroom, copy center and document management services to large corporations, law firms and government agencies.
