Cambridge, Mass.—A study by PJA Advertising+Marketing and Toolbox.com found that 34.7% of IT execs believe vendors must have a presence in online communities, and 42.0% say it’s important for IT vendors to engage in conversations with their audiences.

The fourth “IT Social Media Index” was based on an online survey in June of nearly 3,000 IT professionals in the Toolbox.com community. The survey also found that social media consumption among IT professionals increased to 4.7 hours a week, up from 3.7 hours a week when a similar survey was conducted last year.

Among the IT executives who use Twitter, 62% said it is becoming more useful for sharing and finding content and expertise.
