Des Plaines, Ill.-based James Informational Media this summer purchased Aggregates Manager from Mercor Media. The 20,000-circulation title, aimed at construction materials producers, will go from bimonthly to monthly at the start of next year. Mike Porcaro is the magazine's publisher.
MB: What's the acquisition mean for James?
Porcaro: The addition of Aggregates Manager gives James Informational Media strong titles in two of the most vital infrastructure markets in North America: the highway/bridge construction market and the aggregates market. The single largest consumer of aggregates in North America is the highway and bridge market, served by our flagship magazine, Better Roads. The linkage between the two markets allows us to offer readers and advertisers of both magazines many unique benefits. A number of subscribers to Aggregates Manager, namely producers of aggregate, sell their products to a certain segment of Better Roads' readers, mostly concrete and asphalt producers. The concrete and asphalt producers sell their products to other segments of Better Roads' audience, primarily road contractors and government agencies.
MB: What's the overall circulation philosophy for Aggregates Manager?
Porcaro: To cover every major firm and installation with no waste. Our aim is to not necessarily to have the highest circulation in the field, but to have the right circulation.
