After posting loss, AOL starts Global Marketing Solutions Group

New York--Media giant AOL Time Warner Inc. has established the AOL Time Warner Global Marketing Solutions Group. The move comes as the company's marketers come under pressure to create a fiscal reversal of fortune; last month, AOL Time Warner reported a second-quarter net loss of $734 million, compared with a loss of $927 million in the year-earlier period. The new group will develop the company's cross-platform advertising and marketing aimed at its major partners, including eBay Inc. and Bank of America Corp. The group--whose formation underscores the emphasis AOL Time Warner is placing on cross-marketing between its units, including CNN and Time Inc.--will be headed by president Myer Berlow, who was America Online Inc.'s president for worldwide interactive marketing. Robert Friedman, formerly president of AOLtv, will take Berlow's old job.
