New York—A new tool for public relations marketing, MatchPoint, promises to more accurately match story queries with appropriate journalists by mining the Web for similar articles and their authors.

According to MatchPoint, its matching engine uses search to produce a ranked list of journalists whose body of work matches the query. The company said that names are culled from news content databases containing 3 million articles from 11,000 print publications, 25,000 online news sites, and 10,000 blogs dating back six months.

The tool can adjust the relative weights of article relevance, recency and frequency, as well as media outlet reach. Matchpoint is offered with a free 10-day trial at The subscription fee thereafter is $65 a month. —Christopher Hosford
