Press+ offers special deal to publishers

New York—Last week, Google closed down its Google One Pass service, a platform to help publishers generate online subscription revenue. This week, RR Donnelley & Sons Co.'s Press+, which is also an e-commerce platform that helps publishers implement a metered subscription model, said it will “grandfather” in subscribers at no charge for publishers that had used Google One Pass. Press+ said 349 publishers, which include newspapers, magazines and online-only sites, have launched paid models using its platform. “We will maintain subscriber accounts for whichever publishers might have signed on with Google without charging our usual revenue share,” said Press+ Co-CEO Steven Brill in a statement. “We'll only charge for all the new customers we generate going forward once our seamless transition is completed.”
