Primedia to consolidate consumer, specialty publications

New York--Primedia Inc. unveiled Thursday a plan to integrate the company's consumer magazines with its special interest publications to form a single unit, Primedia Consumer Magazine & Internet Group. In the restructuring, Primedia plans to eliminate about 50 ``overhead positions,'' according to a press release. Primedia characterized the restructuring as an effort to integrate the operations of its consumer magazines and Internet businesses. The move appears to have little impact on Primedia's b-to-b group, although Debra Chirichella, formerly COO of Primedia's enthusiast publications, will join the b-to-b unit as exec VP-operations, reporting to David Ferm, president of the group.
