Professional journals bounce back

Published on .

New York—After declining in 2009, scientific, technical, medical, legal and business journals posted revenue growth of 3% in 2010, according to a report from Simba Information. The report, “Global Professional Publishing 2009-2010,” projected that growth in the sector will continue at a compound annual rate of 3.3% through 2013.

Simba Information said the professional journals market is an $8.9 billion industry. Medical journals were the fastest-growing area of the market, according to the report.

“Journals are offered in print and electronic formats, and are increasingly designed to offer critical content that can be accessed immediately through handheld devices, desktop downloads and computer alerts for physicians,” Dan Strempel, lead author of the report, said in a statement.
