Providence and Carlyle eye Informa

London—On Tuesday U.K.-based business publishers Informa and United Business Media said they had scrapped merger talks in part because a third party emerged showing interest in acquiring Informa.

On Thursday, the identity of that suitor was revealed. Private equity firms Providence Equity Partners and the Carlyle Group announced that they are working on a $3.5 billion deal to acquire Informa.
