New publisher named at 'San Jose Mercury News'

Published on .

San Jose--The San Jose Mercury News Tuesday named Joseph Natoli as publisher. Natoli's appointment follows by less than a week the departure of former publisher Jay Harris. Harris resigned after warning his corporate bosses at Knight-Ridder Inc. that their profit targets risked "lasting harm" to the newspaper. Natoli most recently served as president of the Miami Herald Publishing Co., also owned by Knight-Ridder.
