Publishers face new round of paper price hikes

Published on .

Chicago—B-to-b media companies are bracing for a new round of paper price hikes that are slated to go into effect March 1.

Paper mills are attempting to institute price hikes of about 5% on coated groundwood stocks.

Some smaller publishers fear the price increase may be accompanied by paper shortages because of a strike at the UPM-Kymmene plant in New Brunswick, Canada. A strike has idled UPM Miramichi’s groundwood mill, which Tom Purple, VP at Websource, estimates supplies about 5% of the coated groundwood stock used in magazines and catalogs in North America.
