Qualcomm, Airvana in high-speed equipment deal

San Diego--Qualcomm Inc. on Monday said it has signed a multimillion-dollar license deal with Airvana Inc., which makes radio access network equipment, to develop high-speed transmission equipment for cellular wireless services. Airvana said it plans to develop and market technology to send data over PCS and cellular wireless networks at speeds comparable to DSL or cable modems, at a lower cost per byte. Airvana is a closely held company formed by former executives from Motorola Inc., Lucent Technologies Inc., Cisco Systems Inc. and Nortel Networks Corp.
