Radio advertising increases 6% in first quarter

New York—Overall marketing spending on radio increased 6% to $3.68 billion in the first quarter, compared with the same period last year, according to data released Friday by the Radio Advertising Bureau.

The figures showed that national advertising increased to $568 million, a gain of 19% over last year’s first quarter. Local advertising rose to $2.45 billion, a gain of 2%.

Financial services was the category that showed the largest growth. The category was up 49% in the first quarter to $191.6 million.
